Galatians | From Slaves to Sons

Galatians | From Slaves to Sons

Season 3, Episode 6

In this episode, Michael and Zach continue their series through Galatians by examining Paul’s movement from slavery to sonship in Galatians 4:1–11. Paul describes God’s people under the Law as heirs who, while still under guardianship, function much like servants awaiting the time appointed by the Father. But when the fullness of time came, God sent His Son to redeem those under the Law and bring them into His family through adoption. The discussion explores what Paul means by the “elemental things of the world,” the significance of Christ being born under the Law, and the remarkable privilege of believers receiving the Spirit and crying, “Abba, Father.” Michael and Zach then examine Paul’s warning that the Galatians’ return to religious observance as a basis for righteousness is not spiritual progress but a return to slavery. The episode ultimately asks why Christians would try to gain through religious performance what God has already freely given them in Christ: sonship, belonging, and an inheritance.
