In this episode, Michael and Zach continue through Galatians by examining Paul’s deeply personal appeal in Galatians 4:12–31. Paul reminds the Galatians of the affection they once had for him and asks how telling them the truth has made him seem like an enemy. He contrasts the motives of the false teachers, who seek dependence and loyalty, with his own desire to see Christ formed in them. Paul then returns to Abraham, using Hagar and Sarah, Ishmael and Isaac, as an illustration of two fundamentally different ways of relating to God’s promise: slavery through human effort and freedom through divine promise. The discussion explores Paul’s striking identification of Hagar with Sinai and the present Jerusalem, his quotation of Isaiah 54, and his conclusion that believers are already children of promise. The Galatians do not need to place themselves under the Law to become legitimate heirs; in Christ, they already are.
